[Bug 457960] New: Can't record sound from midi device with krecord
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=457960 Summary: Can't record sound from midi device with krecord Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: RC 1 Platform: 64bit OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE4 Applications AssignedTo: kde-maintainers@suse.de ReportedBy: f.de.kruijf@hetnet.nl QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- I start timidity using the command "timidity -iA -B2,8 -Os1l -s 44100 &". In /usr/share/timidity the only two active lines are: dir /usr/share/timidity soundfont FluidR3.sf2 Obviously I have FluidR3.sf2 in /usr/share/timidity. Using "noteedit" I can play the music notes entered in this application. In openSUSE 10.3 I could record the sound from noteedit using krecord by choosing the right settings in kmix. I tried the same in 11.0 with KDE3 and it did not work. Now I am trying this in 11.1 RC1 with KDE 4.1.3 release 64.2 and again it does not work. I consider this to be a bug; it did work in 10.3. But otherwise consider this to be a feature request. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Let's try and localise it though: Can you record at all with any other sound recorder app? Can you record from another sound source with krecord? What happens if you use eg alsamixer instead of kmix to set the recording source channel? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Can you record at all with any other sound recorder app?
Please indicate what application I can use to do that. I found arecord but that one is not handy together with noteedit.
Can you record from another sound source with krecord?
Yes, I can record sound from the microphone. I also found a way to record the output from noteedit using a cable to feed line output to line input and recording using line input as the recording source.
What happens if you use eg alsamixer instead of kmix to set the recording source channel?
I will try that. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

The sound recording does not work and what is even worse, the Skype does not capture any sound from any mic input. The skype is though unusable in opensuse 11.1. Priority of this bug should be chaged to HIGH. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

However in KMix I have three Input Sources, Mic, Internal Mic and Line. First I tried Mic with an extenal microphone connected to microphone in on the front of my laptop. In Skype I have three input sources apart from the default, HDA NVidia (hw:NVidia,0), HDA NVidia (plughw:NVidia,0) and hdmi. I have to choose the default or the first of these three to make sound input work for Skype. When I switch in KMix to Internal Mic as the Input Source the build-in microphone of the laptop did work. Furthermore I played with the boost settings (0 or 50 or 100%) of Mic and Internal Mic and came to the conclusion that it must at least be 50%. With 0% there is no sound. My conclusion on comment #3 from Darek Borkowski is that that is not related to this bug. Argument 1. Sound recording in my system works from all three Input Sources in KMix. Argument 2. Skype works in my system when you use the right settings in Skype and KMix. But _my_ problem still remains. There is no Input Source in KMix from a Midi device. BTW I like the simple layout of the current KMix much more. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
