[Bug 483238] New: Thaw freezes until keyboard activity
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=483238 Summary: Thaw freezes until keyboard activity Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Final Platform: i686 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.1 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: riggwelter@opensuse.org QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Created an attachment (id=277879) --> (https://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=277879) pm-suspend.log When I hibernate and then thaw, the thaw process always freezes until I move my finger on the trackpad and then press a key on the keyboard (the keyboard doesn't have any effect without the trackpad first). I've seen this on two machines with very different hardware: Machine A: An Acer Aspire One - Atom CPU/Intel i915 video card Machine B: An Asus A6J - Core Solo CPU/nVidia video card On Machine B, I had to reinstall (for totally unconnected reasons) and the problem went away at that point. Haven't yet discovered what software I may have had installed previously (and I guess still do on Machine A) but no longer do. Attached is pm-suspend.log -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

That's interesting. Where is it hanging? With the resume splash screen with the progress bar or after switching back to X?
Apparently in between the two - see below.
Could you try with "pm-hibernate" (as root) from an X session if this works better (that would hint at a GNOME issue)?
The behaviour was the same.
You could also hit "esc" early during resume-boot to disable the splash screens, maybe it shows something more about the exact place where it is hanging.
The progress has completed, the screen goes black with the "_" cursor at the top-left of the screen. When I move the trackpad and then press a key, it briefly shows the log console and then switches back to X. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Ok, so it does not look like an UI issue.
could you try with boot option "nohz=off" or / and "hires=off"
This is "highres=off", actually.
(you need to enter them in /boot/grub/menu.lst, otherwise they won't be used during resume and different options on suspend/resume might yield totally different "interesting" problems).
Rafael, any options to try which I forgot?
Well, "noapic" if none of the above helps, also "nolapic_timer" and it may be worth playing with "clocksource=". James, please attach dmesg output containing one hibernation-resume cycle, preferably from each affected machine. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
