Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.1 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Sound AssignedTo: tiwai@novell.com ReportedBy: kvaswegen@gmail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Created an attachment (id=307735) --> (http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=307735) alsa-info User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-GB; rv:1.9.0.11) Gecko/2009060200 SUSE/3.0.11-0.1.1 Firefox/3.0.11 Hi there. I bought a new Dell 1555 64 bit laptop, installed opensuse 11.1 and everything worked except the sound. When I boot into suse I get the following error: Intel HDA Stac92xx not working falling back to HDA ATI HDMI... I have absolutely NO SOUND not even a beep or anything when I start up. I looked in the opensuse forums and tried the troubleshooting guide, I update ALSA normally with still no sound I updated to the daily snapshot. Still no sound. I edited the /etc/modprobe.d/sound file by adding: options snd=hda-intel model='dell-m6 or dell-m6-amic or dell-m6-dmic or dell-eq' and restarting everytime. I test my sound after each restart with the 3 sound tests both as normal or root user both with and without earphones. I also made sure in alsamixer and kmix that my sound is on 100%. Here is some info: rpm -qa | grep alsa alsa-docs-1.0.20-36.1 alsa-tools-1.0.20.git20090702-2.1 alsa-oss-32bit-1.0.17-1.37 alsa-firmware-1.0.20.git20090507-3.1 alsa-plugins-1.0.20.git20090718-2.1 alsa-utils-1.0.20.git20090620-2.1 alsa-oss-1.0.17.git20080715-2.1 alsa-1.0.20.git20090718-2.1 alsa-driver-kmp-default-1.0.20.20090725_2.6.27.25_0.1-1.1 alsa-plugins-pulse-1.0.20.git20090718-2.1 rpm -qa | grep pulse pulseaudio-module-bluetooth-0.9.14-2.2.1 libxine1-pulse-1.1.15-23.3.3 pulseaudio-module-lirc-0.9.14-2.2.1 libpulse0-0.9.14-2.2.1 pulseaudio-module-jack-0.9.14-2.2.1 pulseaudio-lang-0.9.14-2.2.1 libpulse-mainloop-glib0-0.9.14-2.2.1 pulseaudio-0.9.14-2.2.1 pulseaudio-module-zeroconf-0.9.14-2.2.1 pulseaudio-utils-0.9.14-2.2.1 pulseaudio-module-x11-0.9.14-2.2.1 libpulse-browse0-0.9.14-2.2.1 pulseaudio-esound-compat-0.9.14-2.2.1 alsa-plugins-pulse-1.0.20.git20090718-2.1 rpm -q libasound2 libasound2-1.0.20.git20090718-2.1 uname -a Linux linux-dkhc 2.6.27.25-0.1-default #1 SMP 2009-07-01 15:37:09 +0200 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux. I did the test both with and without headphones and tried it as root. Should I use pasuspender by first running: pasuspender aplay and then the rest of the command or just everything in one line? If I run it in one line I get an error saying that -D is not recognized.
Call in a line. In the case of error, run like % pasuspender -- aplay -Dplughw -vv /usr/share/sounds/alsa.test.wav
I then edited the /modprobe.d/sound file, restarted alsa and did everything again. Here is how my current sound file looks like after adding ,model=dell-m6:
options snd slots=snd-hda-intel,snd-hda-intel,model=dell-m6
No, this is a wrong place. It's options for the module "snd", not "snd-hda-inteL'. Remove ",model=dell-m6" again. Instead, create a new line with options snd-hda-intel model=dell-m6 -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
