[Bug 985937] New: wishlist: geeko missing from tumbleweed wallpaper and kde start menu (branding issue)
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=985937 Bug ID: 985937 Summary: wishlist: geeko missing from tumbleweed wallpaper and kde start menu (branding issue) Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Tumbleweed Version: Current Hardware: Other OS: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE Workspace (Plasma) Assignee: opensuse-kde-bugs@opensuse.org Reporter: cristian_anita@yahoo.com QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- I am using Tumbleweed (but the same apply to Leap 42.1) and Plasma 5. The icon of KDE start menu (application menu) is K instead of Geeko. I did not tested with KDE 4 or Gnome. By tradition Geeko was there as part of openSUSE branding. Please bring Geeko back so it will be easy to identify that we are running openSUSE and not KDE/Gnome on whatever distro. I just wanted to bring this to attention in case it was done by accident and not noticed. Start menu is a good place to put distro logo (other distro are using it too). Also, Geeko is missing from Tumleweed wallpaper (it is present in Leap). Also reported here https://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-artwork/2016-05/msg00000.html and here https://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-kde/2016-06/msg00040.html -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=985937 http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=985937#c2 Wolfgang Bauer <wbauer@tmo.at> changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- CC| |wbauer@tmo.at --- Comment #2 from Wolfgang Bauer <wbauer@tmo.at> --- @Billy Brawner: As I already wrote on the mailinglist too, the default application menu icon is taken from the Plasma theme in Plasma5, unlike KDE4. If you want to adjust the openSUSE theme(s), see here for how Plasma's theming works: https://techbase.kde.org/Development/Tutorials/Plasma5/ThemeDetails Though this is also not completely up-to-date for current Plasma versions. The main changes I know of: - the application menu icon is taken from start.svgz - the logout/restart/reboot and so on icons are taken from system.svgz now, not exactly necessary to add that though (if it is missing from the theme, the ones from the default theme, breeze, are used) So in this particular case, mainly the start.svgz needs to be added I suppose, we do have a scalable icon in /usr/share/icons/oxygen/scalable/places/start-here-branding.svgz (part of plasma5-workspace-branding-openSUSE). Probably just copying that to /usr/share/plasma/desktoptheme/XXX/ would be sufficient, but I haven't tried that yet. Though other things might have to be updated too to have a proper openSUSE theme again. The github repo you mentioned is where the KDE4 branding was maintained (we merely "inherited" that from the past when SUSE themselves still maintained KDE4 AFAIK), we didn't use it for Plasma5 at all. Though maybe we should sync it again? What do the other team members think about that? The current branding can only be found in the OBS development project: https://build.opensuse.org/package/show/KDE:Frameworks5/plasma5-openSUSE So if you want to change something, please branch from there and submit back. Feel free to ask if you have further questions. Regarding the wallpaper: we only take the default openSUSE one, so that's not a KDE issue but would need to be changed in general. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

So in this particular case, mainly the start.svgz needs to be added I suppose, we do have a scalable icon in /usr/share/icons/oxygen/scalable/places/start-here-branding.svgz (part of plasma5-workspace-branding-openSUSE). Probably just copying that to /usr/share/plasma/desktoptheme/XXX/ would be sufficient, but I haven't tried that yet.
Meanwhile I did create a working start.svgz based on that icon myself (just copying it was not enough as the graphic elements inside were not named properly) which we could add to the openSUSE* desktop themes. I'll submit it later.
Though other things might have to be updated too to have a proper openSUSE theme again.
This mainly applies to the openSUSElight, openSUSEdark and openSUSEdefault themes that we do still ship (and used as default in previous openSUSE releases/KDE4). They are not fully complete/up-to-date, and are basically unmaintained. If you want to work on that, feel free to do so, but that's out of scope for this bug report anyway. The "openSUSE" theme that we set as default is completely empty, which means that we actually use upstream's "breeze" theme by default. So there's not really a need to update it either.
The github repo you mentioned is where the KDE4 branding was maintained (we merely "inherited" that from the past when SUSE themselves still maintained KDE4 AFAIK), we didn't use it for Plasma5 at all. Though maybe we should sync it again? What do the other team members think about that?
A clarification: The KDE workspace branding (default settings and the openSUSE desktop themes e.g.) are maintained in a different repo on github: https://github.com/openSUSE/kdebase-opensuse (I just noticed that there actually is a plasma5 branch, but it's not fully up-to-date) https://github.com/openSUSE/branding is indeed the place where the general openSUSE branding is maintained, including the default wallpapers (that are used by Plasma too). -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=985937 http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=985937#c5 Wolfgang Bauer <wbauer@tmo.at> changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Status|IN_PROGRESS |RESOLVED Resolution|--- |FIXED --- Comment #5 from Wolfgang Bauer <wbauer@tmo.at> --- The openSUSE desktop themes now contain a start.svgz using the openSUSE logo: https://build.opensuse.org/request/show/405051 So if you choose one of them (openSUSE is the default on a fresh user account if the openSUSE branding is installed), you'll get the openSUSE logo as icon for the application launchers. Will be submitted to Tumbleweed together with the update to Plasma 5.7.0. As already mentioned, the wallpaper is nothing KDE specific and is not part of the KDE branding but the general one. Feel free to file a separate bug about that. Though I think something like that is better discussed on the mailing lists (maybe try opensuse-factory as well, as there hasn't been any reply on opensuse-artwork yet), it is not a bug really. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
