https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=843539 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=843539#c0 Summary: Downgrade of Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.3 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 12.3 Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: sknorr@novell.com QAContact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:24.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/24.0 After updating from my previous version of glibc to version 2.17-4.7.1 that was being served via the official openSUSE-12.3-Update repo today, I noticed a problem, that is, Gnome Terminal could not execute "grantpt" anymore. (A similar bug seems to exist on Arch now, https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=168303 ) Now, I found it rather unpleasant to have been robbed of my default terminal emulator's functionality. Thus, I tried downgrading glibc to the version that I found in the openSUSE-12.3-Oss repo (2.17-4.4.1). That did not work very well – the update failed, because apparently the installed version of glibc was completely removed before the downgrade version could be installed. Thus, rpm failed to start, as did all other software I tried to start subsequently. Ultimately, we/I decided to boot into the Rescue mode of the openSUSE DVD, and installed the glibc RPMs contained on the CD with $ rpm -r [...] -U [...] --force Reproducible: Didn't try Actual Results: Downgrade should be fine. Expected Results: Downgrade led to my system becoming unusable until I repaired it with the openSUSE DVD. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
