It could also be that this is because bad dmi info we suffer a bit in 10.2. Can you please attach dmidecode output. Parameters that worked on some other machines that broke with 10.2: nosmp noapic (together) or acpi=force apic=force (if you boot in text mode and see a message like APIC disabled and or ACPI disabled because BIOS too old, this one should be the params to go with). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Note that I didnt see any BIOS "out of date" msgs and that this laptop is less than 3 months old and I have checked the ASUS web site for any updates and there are not. Hope this is of some help. On 2.6.19 kernel I have successfully booted without any additional parameters...
So this seems to be fixed mainline. If you are able to identify the patch that fixes your machine, we can add it to 10.2/SLE10-SP1. Maybe you are lucky searching here: http://kernel.org/git Or you can use git bisect to identify the fixing patch for sure. Moving the bug to the mobile team so that they are aware of the problem, maybe they have a similar problem and can reproduce this. I don't see how to identify the problem and find the fix without having such a machine. Andy: if you really find it, we can probably add it if it is save enough and potentially cannot break any other machine. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=222680 ------- Comment #18 from trenn@novell.com 2007-01-29 05:42 MST ------- But there isn't any fix attached? As the other machines got fixed by BIOS update, chances are high that the change will also get published for your model (if this really is related). You could compare the release date of the other BIOSes and yours on the ASUS website... I asked the guy who told he had backported two patches for 2.6.18 for gentoo. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

The BIOS level seems to be similar to the other ASUS laptops. Using ENABLE_8254_TIMER also allows it to boot from the install DVD successfully. As there is a workaround I'd like to close this one. We have too much to do with SLE10-SP1 and mainline work and we better do not risk breaking already working machines... You might want to place a hint how to workaround the problem on your machine for others somewhere here: http://en.opensuse.org/Welcome_to_openSUSE.org I expect this is a bug happening only happening on nvidia boards. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
