Sorry I cannot look up the exact words at the moment. I would be happy if you could explain what you mean by "restart of the X system". Do you mean CTRL_ALT_BKSP ? Or rcxdm restart ? Or reboot ? Up to openSUSE 10.2, only a reboot helped me to "restart my X system". The graphics system under linux is a service like a web server or ftp server and it can be restarted like every other service as well. I'm sorry this explanation has been evaluated by native speakers.
