[Bug 372648] New: Split LiveDVD created with KIWI fail to boot correcty with less than 1 GB of RAM
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=372648 Summary: Split LiveDVD created with KIWI fail to boot correcty with less than 1 GB of RAM Product: openSUSE.org Version: unspecified Platform: All OS/Version: All Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: System Imaging AssignedTo: ms@novell.com ReportedBy: jordi@grn.es QAContact: adrian@novell.com Found By: Third Party Developer/Partner While creating a 'split' image for a LiveDVD, a rootfs.tar file containing the RW part of the operating system is created. This tar file is untared later on a mounted tmpfs in RAM. The tar file is a bit uncommon, because contains a big number of symlinks to the read-only portion of the Live filesystem. Only the RW part of it are regular files. Whenever you untar this archive to /mnt tmpfs, you need lots of free inodes inside ( symlinks uses them ). The problem is that the mounted /mnt tmpfs is created with a number of inodes by default which is a proportional aumont related to the RAM memory used by the tmpfs. Because of the high number of symlinks in the tar file, the reserved number of inodes by default isn't enough to host the untarred file. Solution to that is to count the number of inodes needed by the untarred file and reserve them when mounting the /mnt/tmpfs. This example works for a SLED10-SP1 based LiveDVD with /etc,/home and /var directories on the RW side of the DVD. In file KIWILinuxRC.sh: mount -t tmpfs tmpfs -o size=512m,nr_inodes=160k /mnt >/dev/null This bug is present on the last kiwi version 2.38 -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
