[Bug 731592] New: Upgrading to 12.1 should not remove packages which are not on the DVD
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=731592 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=731592#c0 Summary: Upgrading to 12.1 should not remove packages which are not on the DVD Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.1 Version: Final Platform: All OS/Version: SuSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: antoine.mechelynck@belgacom.net QAContact: jsrain@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:11.0a1) Gecko/20111120 Firefox/11.0a1 SeaMonkey/2.8a1 Upgrading from openSUSE 11.4 to 12.1 Final by means of the DVD Image seemed to have run with no problems. Seemed, I say. Later I found out that the following packages (and maybe others that I haven't yet discovered) were missing in the upgraded system: libgnomeui-devel acroread If these packages are not on the DVD, they should have been left in place so that after enabling the 12.1 (debug, non-oss, etc.) repositories, zypper up or YOU would find and update them. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. See above Actual Results: See above Expected Results: See above Additional info: The OS mentioned here as "SuSE Other" is of course the installation kernel and installation initrd from the 12.1 Final DVD. I'm setting the Severity to Critical (dataloss), the "lost data" being the high-handedly removed packages. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

E.g. I expect the installed libgnomeui-devel to require a package not on DVD and then the solver won't leave the broken package installed. And there is no data lost as yast will log nicely what package are removed and you can easily install them afterwards. flash player and acroread are special, we remove them to make sure you're not staying behind with broken software - but rather make sure to reinstall them from fresh repos. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Can you please tell me where that log is to be found _after_ the updated system boots up? I'm not going to remain glued to the screen for several hours doing nothing but watch the names of thousands upon thousands of removed, updated or added packages as they zip by. (And if I look at the release notes or even at the default tab telling me what is great about openSUSE I will of course not see your "nice log"). I'll rather configure the update, start it, see that it seems to be going nicely, and then go to bed. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
