[Bug 673612] New: KDE panel doesn't adapt to varying screen sizes anymore
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=673612 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=673612#c0 Summary: KDE panel doesn't adapt to varying screen sizes anymore Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.4 Version: Factory Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.3 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE4 Workspace AssignedTo: kde-maintainers@suse.de ReportedBy: timshel@rocketmail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; pl; rv:1.9.2.13) Gecko/20101203 Firefox/3.6.13 My laptop display has a screen width of 1280 and my TFT of 1920. In openSUSE 11.3 the maximized KDE panel automatically adapts to the screen size independent if the switch was from big to small or vice versa. Since openSUSE 11.4 this adaption doesn't work anymore at all. So if I switch to the laptop display the panel exceeds the screen size and in case of the opposite I have a small panel which only uses a fraction of the screen. If the panel is too big for the screen it is not that easy to change the panel settings at least for a new user. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Use a laptop with a lower resolution than your external monitor and maximize the panel 2.connect the laptop to the external screen and deactivate the laptop display Actual Results: The panel doesn't adapt to the new screen size. Expected Results: The panel does adapt to the new screen size. This is most likely a KDE bug but according to this report https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=209962 it is an old issue. Nevertheless it has worked fine in openSUSE 11.3 so it was either a downstream fix or the KDE devs have fixed it temporally in 4.4.4. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

There is another problem in 11.4 that if I disconnect from the docking station the external screen sometimes doesn't get deactivated but set in clone mode which allows the panel to be bigger than the laptop screen. If the screen external display gets deactivated the panel is re-sized most of the time. I am not sure yet if it is a X or Kernel bug. Nevertheless the panel size isn't increased at all so this report is still valid. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

The panel now doesn't even re-size if you decrease your resolution. So it should be reproducible on every system. Steps to Reproduce: 1.Maximize the panel 2.Decrease the resolution. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

In this case the screen size was 1280x1024. When I change the minimumSize entry manually the panel seems always to scale to the minimumSize. Panel width is set to screen width on first log-in. Panel width does not change automatically, neither wider nor narrower, when screen width changes. When the screen width increases at least it's easy to widen the panel, but when the screen width decreases the panel width controls are somewhere in outer space, out of reach. This situation exists each time the source of the log-in changes, e.g. local (graphics) console log-in or log-in via remote X (XDMCP). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
