[Bug 977944] New: Privoxy is not functional with WLAN and does not behave as expected.
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=977944 Bug ID: 977944 Summary: Privoxy is not functional with WLAN and does not behave as expected. Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: Leap 42.1 Hardware: x86-64 OS: openSUSE 42.1 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Network Assignee: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com Reporter: stakanov@freenet.de QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- when using Privoxy in Leap I encounter this stable problem: a) all works well with lan. When installing and setting browsers to 127.0.0.1:8118 privoxy works, config page works. All as expected. b) when using wlan: Firefox does not load the pages. When telling no proxy all works. When using search sites they load even when privoxy is aktivated (while all other not), but apparently without using privoxy, bypassing it. Chromium: does load pages but although setting is to 127.0.0.1:8118 there is not privoxy used, the load of config page answers that privoxy is not being used. Again this is only with wlan. No problem while in Lan. I looked up hwinfo: wlan0 and eth0 are the interfaces. I looked whether they have IP, yes they have. I looked with netstat -tulpn. Privoxy proudly listens on 8118 as expected. What should the software do: work with lan as well as with wlan. TOR is currently not used in this setting. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

When you use wlan, then no internet if you set to use privoxy. No privoxy any more when coming home also, no internet. If you erase /etc/resolv.conf then it will not work either (however in the logs does not appear the writing "you did modify resolv.conf manually". This is also a bug, as I do not modify resolv.conf ever. I checked the content of resolv.conf and the date of modification and there does not seem to be a rational basis for that claim). I did in this very moment try privoxy. For unknown reasons, in one user account privoxy works now. But ONLY in FF. In Chromium it fails if set up with the result that pivoxy/config clearly states privoxy is not being used. The very same user has chromium with privoxy set up correctly (worked before) but as the other users on the system it claims that "privoxy is not used". This independent if FF or Chromium. I cleared the cache and double checked settings. Is this package still functional in Leap? Does resolv.conf still handle things or is it systemd now? What I really do not understand: why in all world it works with the same setting in one user, but only in FF and does not work anywhere else? And why does it stop working if I change to other networks? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Well, I do not have modified resolv.conf. Privoxy does charge certain pages, other do not charge at all and time out. In the same moment in other users they do function normally. http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=977944 http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=977944#c4 --- Comment #4 from Stakanov Schufter <stakanov@freenet.de> --- I can trigger this with suspend to ram or suspend to disk. At the new startup I will have network via network manager. Privoxy runs and listens. But: Privoxy does tell that it cannot open the pages. When I open a CLI and: su systemctl restart privoxy.service all runs well, returns to prompt. Afterwards the loading of browser pages is perfectly normal again. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=977944 http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=977944#c5 --- Comment #5 from Stakanov Schufter <stakanov@freenet.de> --- BUMP It would be really nice to understand the issue. User A, B, C working in user C Suddenly: internet only on sites that are used all the time. Other sites no connection, google, ixquick, duckduckgo no connection This has to do with privoxy because on the same user: FF with privoxy no connection for search sites and the main part of internet sites Chromium with privoxy idem but: Seamonkey without privoxy: connection to everything. I tried then to restart privoxy as described before. But I did so while being in User A Result: Connections in user A and B are normal. User C continue to show the very same pattern as before. Now, I do not have any particular setting on user C. And the problem is browser independent and related to privoxy. Would it be possible to have a info on how to debug to understand where the problem is in the first place? And: if nobody maintains privoxy any more, nobody wants to /can fix it anymore, why don't we drop it. I do not think to be "pushy" if I ask kindly some / whatever feedback after one month and a half, am I? P.S. I also logged out of that user completely and logged in again. And I tried to cancel all cash of chromium - no change. The problem of the search machines exists in browser main window and in the small search window. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

It would have been nice to discover "what has been wrong" because I am convinced I had malware on this machine. I reinstalled the whole system. So now we can close a few "bugs". I can load pages without having to restart privoxy, I got rid of the message "you have modified resolve.conf (which I didn't), sshd does not change inode anymore and the the "secure memory pool" has not been "initialized already" so I can use KGPG again. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

What happens (or what seems to happen is): Privoxy service starts. When activating the WLAN connection via Networkmanager in journalctl you find: privoxy entered in failed state. Once WLAN is working, if you restart privoxy in systemd, it will work the whole session for all users on that system correctly. There is no error message when opening the browser, only that the page do not load (from privoxy). This can be very irritating to users and leaves privoxy if run as a daemon useless. The only further note you find in journalctl is the mention: you have modified /etc/resolve.conf leaving it untouched. As I did not modify anything, this seems to be an issue with how the wlan session is set up by network manager? Maybe this could be the issue of privoxy going into failed state? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
