Now get out of preview mode and you see that the windows you had open on your screen are GONE. Changing importance to critical because major data loss is possible, and it already DID occur on me. Either your X server or your window manager very probably crashed. To verify one or either, please look at the /var/log/messages and find the time when it happened. You should see segfault, abort or OOPS message there. It should tell you, what crashed. If it is Xorg, please provide your /var/log/Xorg.0.log or, /var/log/Xorg.0.log just after the crash. It may be a known crash.
