http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=598811 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=598811#c0 Summary: Using a Avocent KVM with USB devices causes Xorg to crash when switching channels Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.2 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Minor Priority: P5 - None Component: X.Org AssignedTo: bnc-team-xorg-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: cmertens@novell.com QAContact: xorg-maintainer-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com Found By: Novell Technical Services Services Priority: 1000 Blocker: --- Having some Workstations and a Laptop connected to an Avocent Switchview MM1 Kvm switch xserver crashes every second time channel is switched. Hardware: Laptop: Lenovo ThinkPad T61P Workstation: DELL Precision 490 KVM switch: Avocent Switchview MM1 Keyboard: DELL via USB Mouse: Logitech MX1000 Laser via USB Software: Laptop: Fresh install of openSuSE 11.2 -> running GNOME Workstation: Upgrade from openSuSE 11.1 to openSuSE 11.2 -> running GNOME Both experience the same issue. It doesn't matter if you are logged in or not. It even crashes the Xserver when you are in init 5 and have moved to console via Alt-F1. It always works for one switch and when being back on the same box and trying to switch for the second time X crashes again and get's restarted so that you are prompted with the session login screen again. After Every crash I find the following in the /var/log/Xorg.0.log: .. (II) config/hal: Adding input device Dell Dell USB Keyboard (EE) config/hal: NewInputDeviceRequest failed (8) (II) config/hal: Adding input device Logitech USB RECEIVER (EE) config/hal: NewInputDeviceRequest failed (8) .. After manipulating xorg.conf trying to fix the issue via adding server flags like "AutoAddDevices" "Off" and so on I finally concentrated on the devkit-power-daemon errors and find a workaround via removing the "org.freedesktop.DeviceKit.Power.conf" fromt he "/etc/dbus-1/system.d/" directory. Since then 50 channel switches without a crash. This workaround fixed the issue for both the Laptop and the Workstation. So the issue seems to be a combination of the Xserver (xorg) and the KVM switch. Please let me know which files are needed exactly. Is it just Xorg* logs?
