[Bug 618443] New: filesystems/xfsprogs: xfsrepair uses an excessive amount of ram
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=618443 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=618443#c0 Summary: filesystems/xfsprogs: xfsrepair uses an excessive amount of ram Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE.org Version: unspecified Platform: All OS/Version: openSUSE 11.3 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: 3rd party software AssignedTo: mmarek@novell.com ReportedBy: Greg.Freemyer@gmail.com QAContact: opensuse-communityscreening@forge.provo.novell.com Found By: Community User Blocker: No xfsrepair from xfsprogs 3.0.1 uses a linear amount of ram relative to the filesystem size. Thus a 16 TB filesystem requires an inordinate amount of ram just to run xfsrepair. This was resolved in xfsprogs 3.1.1 (and newer). Please upgrade this repository (or some OBS repository) to xfsprogs 3.1.1 or newer. See Jan 2010 status update at http://xfs.org/index.php/XFS_Status_Updates where it says: "The biggest changes in xfsprogs 3.1.0 were optimizations in xfs_repair that lead to a much lower memory usage, and optional use of the blkid library for filesystem detection and retrieving storage topology information. The 3.1.1 release contained various important bug fixes for these changes and a various improvements to the build system.
