https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=391863 Summary: Installation fails on Adaptec 39320 HostRaid Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 10.3 Status: NEW Severity: Blocker Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: sgarrupat73@libero.it QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: Customer I tried to install 10.3 on a DELL workstation with an Adaptec 39320 (3 disks, sdb and sdc as RAID0 with HostRaid): controller seems correctly recognized during setup (aic79xx module is loaded); installation starts but sysetm locks in a few minutes; HDD light stays turned on and after few minutes a message is reported: "(...)can't create a transaction lock on /var/lib/rpm/__db.000(.....)" neither retrying installation of the same rpm nor skipping solves: same error is given also for new packages. I tried also Opensuse 10.3 i386 with same results. Mandriva 2008 i386 installs and runs fine, so I HW-related defect should be excluded. Blocker doesn't apply. That severity doesn't mean, problem blocks installation - it means that it would block shipment of the product. Does the system lock entirely, or does the installation just stall? Cyril : I will open a separate report about YAST issue Jeff : Installation just stalls: it happens during RPMs installation, all at once HDD light stays on, the error is reported and no more packages can be installed.
