* nm-tool * ethtool eth0 |grep Link
Note: You need to run the second command as root.

The ethtool output is exactly the same, only the nm-tool output is different. NetworkManager does not connect to a wired connection as long as there is no carrier. Also, KNetworkManager trusts NetworkManager and does not give you the ability to connect to a wired network interface without carrier. Please attach /var/log/NetworkManager. Tambet, have you seen similar issues for the nvidia chip/forcedeth driver?
