It's been a while since I filed this bug, but I think what I was experiencing isn't actually a bug but by design. I noticed that whenever I run Yast2, I get two instances of Scim running at the same time, one being the regular one and the other, I believe, being an administrator-authored instance that is being used by Yast2. This probably needs to be the way it is. Anyway, I can't reproduce any text input problems, so the issue is, to my knowledge, resolved.
