https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=849048 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=849048#c0 Summary: no option to boot existing linux ... Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 13.1 Version: RC 1 Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: mmeeks@suse.com QAContact: jsrain@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- I did an install on /dev/sda2 assuming my previous install on /dev/sda1 would continue to be bootable from grub/whatever. Unfortunately, it was not - I now have only options for booting 13.1 - possibly I agreed to that, but it's an unexpected default. Where was its bootloader installed to? If it was in MBR, then there is no way any further system could boot it... -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I imagine I used whatever the defaults where when I installed 12.1 or whatever - before zypper dup'ing to 12.3 and then doing this parallel install. It was my expectation that another currently booting/active linux partition /dev/sda1 might have it's grub menu examined, and those items collated into the boot options (?) perhaps I have a mistaken expectation. I hope that something like that is done for windows partitions, I'm surprised it's not for an existing Linux one :-) [ I could swear that that used to work ]. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=849048 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=849048#c3 --- Comment #3 from Michael Meeks <mmeeks@suse.com> 2013-11-09 21:27:11 UTC --- Amazingly (I guess I upgraded the grub2 package) when I just re-booted - having done nothing to configure grub2 - I saw that I suddenly have an option to boot from the other (old) Linux partition - nice ! :-) So - I guess (somehow) this was fixed; or potentially upgrading the package just fixed it, or perhaps running the yast2 boot-loaded applet (without changing anything) fixed it [ still running grub2 ]. I can't explain it -but the entry is now there, where it should be - and it was not before. I only see a grub2-branding package update in my zypper log though. so - please do mark fixed if that satisfies you =) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
