[Bug 326608] New: System Backup fails when and requires much more refinement and can currently perform Incremental Backups only
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=326608 Summary: System Backup fails when and requires much more refinement and can currently perform Incremental Backups only Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Final Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: YaST2 AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: alpha096@tpg.com.au QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: Customer Issue 1 - Yast System backup only performs incremental backups. If you are backing up regularly - great - however if you loose your first backup which does contain the total system, as achieve bits have not been set - the remaining incremental packages are useless and you can never recover to original state. The user needs a choice of type of backup. Issue 2 Very slow Searching for Modified files in my case on a P4 HT 3.2 2.00GB and the root or system partition of 5GB of used space took over 18 mins and the /home partition 4 GB took 9 minutes. The date and time needs to be auto added to the file name as is the extension. Adding files to tables took over 36 hours when an NFS drive was nominated after which time the process was aborted. There also needs to be a Browse button next to file name grayed out when a NFS backup location is chosen. There is no ability to create a directory off an NFS drive even if NFS rights permit. When defining a Local File you have to specify absolute path - all ok, however you can specify /home/unknown_subdirectory/backup.tar - in This case NO subdirectory as specified is created and next operation proceeds. I am under the assumption that when the achieve file is going to be written to local file path as above that it would bomb out there With respect to "automatic Backup a"wake computer of suspended" option and functionality is needed. Please drastically increase the priority for CPU and RAM to a very high rate as this application would normally be run without anything else being open and we can afford the huge gulp of both CPU and RAM resources. The Abort buttion will not kill the application - only after 20 or more clicking on Abort MAY terminate the application Please keep in mind we backup in-order to restore and with this in mind what do we need to have in the backup program for a user to restore a PC to its total original state. Apologies for placing more than 1 issue in 1 bug, however this is deliberate as the application modifications would be all done by one or one team. If you would like these in separate issues please advise. Classified as a BUG as it it impossible to backup the whole system - only incremental. The Term System Backup is therefore invalid as no functionality exists to create a full system backup. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
