[Bug 691185] New: SystemSettings is crashing trying to set, change or test screen saver settings, screen saver crash on activation
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=691185 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=691185#c0 Summary: SystemSettings is crashing trying to set, change or test screen saver settings, screen saver crash on activation Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.4 Version: Final Platform: i686 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.4 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE4 Workspace AssignedTo: kde-maintainers@suse.de ReportedBy: boriss_vlassov@hotmail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created an attachment (id=427496) --> (http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=427496) Backtrace content User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686; rv:2.0.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/4.0 After a Screen Saver - System Settings crash which happened when I was trying to set, change or test screen saver settings I got a KDE Crash Handler window with information that application 'systemsettings' was closed unexpectedly (Signal: segmentation fault (11)). Screen saver's settings by default start screen saver as a black blank screen. Bug itself looks like KDE bug 271658 (this bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 188623), but on current hardware it was successfully reproducible on "official" openSUSE 11.4 (2.6.38.4-23-default), openSUSE_Tumbleweed, and 'openSUSE-11.3-KDE4-LiveCD-i686.iso'. No bug available on the same hardware for Fedora-14-i686-Live-KDE and for Fedora-14 i686 installed onto hard drive, both were tested on the same computer and screen saver works properly. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Execute Configure Desktop from menu 2. Select Display and Monitor from the Personal Setiings 3. Select Screen Saver tab 4. Select screen saver from the list available Actual Results: Manually: Application crash: Got System Settings - The KDE Crash Handler window. Application 'systemsettings' was closed unexpectedly. Signal: segmentation fault (11). Automatically by default with: black blank screen instead of correct screen saver. Expected Results: Manually: Activate new screen saver settings, activate selected screen saver if on pressing the "Test" button. Automatically: correct screen saver activation. With kdeartwork4-screensaver versions smaller than 4.6.2-1.1.i586 (current version installed from 'openSUSE:Tumbleweed/standard' repository) was a problem with activated password protection on screen saver, after password protection activation was impossible to unlock the screen (including KDE4 4.6.0). But this problem was not always reproducible in "official" openSUSE_11.4 and was not reproducible in openSUSE_Tumbleweed/standard (current install, KDE4 4.6.2). This makes problem severity as "major" due the potential security risks, because user has potential choice between "unsaved active data no longer present" or security risk with deactivated screen saver password protection option. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
