[Bug 510999] New: Installation hangs when entering User Settings and addon CD is in the drive
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=510999 Summary: Installation hangs when entering User Settings and addon CD is in the drive Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Final Platform: PC OS/Version: openSUSE 11.1 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: ashaduri@gmail.com QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: --- User-Agent: Opera/9.64 (X11; Linux x86_64; U; en) Presto/2.1.1 Start installation and indicate that you want to use the Addon CD. Put in the CD when prompted. Go through various settings, including creating a user. At this point I disabled all 3 checkboxes (two of which - "use the same password for administrator" and "automatic login" were enabled by default). At some point the installation overview is shown. Click the User Settings link. Don't change anything, just click Accept. A dialog about retrieving the cracklib extension shows up and immediately disappears. At this point the system just hangs there, with the "busy" mouse cursor. After several minutes it goes into some kind of timeout and aborts to text mode. This happened to me on two computers. Reproducible: Always -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Alexander, how much memory does your machine have?
The first time it happened when I was installing openSUSE on a computer with 4 GB RAM. The second time I reproduced it when installing it to a vmware virtual machine with 768M ram (IIRC). -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

There isn't by any chance the add-on media still inserted when it looks for the extension?
Yes it is. There's Add-On media inserted and not the installation one. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

.. but all the extend calls are called with this situation, and the first one works. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

However in the last log (comment 8), extend actually returns true: 2009-09-17 02:55:30 <1> linux(2725) [YCP] InstExtensionImage.ycp:326 Returned: $["exit":0, "stderr":"", "stdout":"cracklib-dict-full.rpm: extend ok\n"]
... so even if I'd check the value, here YaST would be cheated.
Steffen, why was this time the return value 0? -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Now, even when extend failure (Steffen?), YaST should not crash. Martin, could you look for the crash reason? (see logs above)
Logs from comment 8: the signal log shows a UI backtrace but that is probably from the wrong thread. y2log shows that it crashes(*) while trying to SCR::Execute(.crack, "q") (the line with PathInfo.cc(recursive_rmdir) is the start of global destructors) We've already seen a bug where an agent crashes because it is missing some data: see bug 506781. The crash is a duplicate of that. *) actually more likely an attempted exit (bug 506781 comment 4) -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
