[Bug 288020] New: gnash 0.7.1.cvs20061019-25.1 freezes
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=288020 Summary: gnash 0.7.1.cvs20061019-25.1 freezes Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 10.2 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Other AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: jimomura@pathcom.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: Other This bug report is really just "following procedures." I am certain that the people working on the program are aware of this and any number of other problems. But for what it is worth: If you have gnash installed in Firefox 2.0.0.4 x86-64, and visit "myspace", the page stops rendering ("freezes up") before it completes. It is known that gnash does not support everything in Flash, but I suspect that the Flash formats should give enough information to avoid an actual freeze-up, and bypass the problems, allowing the page to finish rendering -- and maybe show a note saying what the specific file support is missing. Anyway, as I say, I expect everyone who needs to know, already knows this. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=288020#c1 --- Comment #1 from Takashi Iwai <tiwai@novell.com> 2007-07-03 04:51:21 MST --- The gnash package on 10.2 is provided as an experimental package, so I won't fix the bug for 10.2,. Could you check whether this problem still occurs with the latest version? The packages are available at opensuse BS, http://software.opensuse.org/download/home:/tiwai/openSUSE_10.2/ -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=288020#c2 --- Comment #2 from Jim Omura <jimomura@pathcom.com> 2007-07-05 07:55:51 MST --- I downloaded "0.8.0-7.3.x86_64" (the latest version July 4) using "rpm -Uvh" and it failed to install due to "libagg.so.2 (64 bit)" not being found. I tried it again using YaST2 in order to find the missing file, but that did not work either. Unfortunately, after this, I made the mistake of updating my whole system, and an update to Xorg took down my X server. So it may be a while before I can do any further testing. Oh well. . . . -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Anyway, this seems to be an upstream bug, so we'd better to report it. Could you give more detailed bug description (e.g. how to reproduce, with which page / swf, etc) so that I can report it to the upstream bug tracking system? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=288020#c4 --- Comment #4 from Jim Omura <jimomura@pathcom.com> 2007-07-10 14:35:20 MST --- I installed the "agg" and the "gnash" and it is better now. I tried it on "myspace" and "youtube". It will render the pages without crashing, which is a good start. It will not show videos, and the animated displays have errors, but that was what I expected. But "not crashing" is definitely better. Incidentally, I am now running an ATi X1600 Pro, using the ATi fglrx driver version "8.38.6" with full acceleration. That will not make much difference for now, but anything that is implemented in gnash should not fail due to lack of processing. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=288020#c5 --- Comment #5 from Takashi Iwai <tiwai@novell.com> 2007-07-11 03:00:18 MST --- Glad to hear that the crash problem no longer exists. The video feature of gnash is disabled in our package because of possible patent/license issues (which requires ffmpeg). It's no bug. Any pending problem? Otherwise I'd like to close this since the new package is already on FACTORY / 10.3. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=288020#c6 --- Comment #6 from Jim Omura <jimomura@pathcom.com> 2007-07-11 21:46:01 MST --- I am ambivalent about whether this bug stays open or not. On the one hand, I expect that what most people want is a fully functioning Flash implementation. So as long as there is any discrepancy between what one sees on real Flash and what gnash produces I guess someone would want it changed. On the other hand, I do not feel a pressing need for Flash at all. If I really want to see a Flash site, then I can use another computer. In fact, I use a 3rd computer quite often which is an XP machine which I deliberate did NOT install Flash on. If a site has an option for a pure HTML page, then that is what I chose on that computer. If there is only Flash, then I often do not bother with the site at all. So while I would like to have Flash on this Linux box, it is not a priority. If you leave this bug open, then there might be some other people who might come along and give more feedback, but I am not planning on posting more right now. I would like to leave it open for a couple of days -- say till Friday, in case I decide to post further information. But beyond Friday, if no one else posts anything, then maybe that would be a good day to close it. For now, I will try and post a summary of what I have seen: [NOTE: I do not have any personal connection with these sites. I am just reading them like everone else.] "http://www.youtube.com/" - right now there is a Flash based banner near the top of the page. There are some animated "buttons" to push. The pictures (buttons) are not being displayed properly, making the whole banner generally useless. "http://www.stingerproducts.com/" - This appears to be working properly as far as I can tell. "http://www.newswire.ca/en/" - There is an adversizing spot on the top right which is Flash based. It seems to be working properly. Maybe more to come? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I downloaded and upgraded to the 7.4 version and ran it. I did not notice any changes, so all I can say is that there does not seem to be any new problem. As far as I am concerned, this bug can be closed. . . . -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

That comment probably does not help, but at least it is still fairly stable. "http://www.myspace.com/" pages render fairly well. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
