[Bug 947782] New: High CPU usage by plasmashell and kactivitymanager
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=947782 Bug ID: 947782 Summary: High CPU usage by plasmashell and kactivitymanager Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Factory Version: 2015* Hardware: 64bit OS: SUSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE4 Workspace Assignee: kde-maintainers@suse.de Reporter: fkereki@gmail.com QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created attachment 649259 --> http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/attachment.cgi?id=649259&action=edit Output of "top" showing high %CPU for plasmashell and kactivitymanager At times, plasmashell %CPU usage goes to 100%, and kactivitymanager also suffers a similar problem. The attached screenshot was taken at a time when no applications (other than ksnapshot, obviously!) were running. Sometimes the slowdown is so long that killing the sessions becomes mandatory. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

I'm running: - openSUSE Tumbleweed up to date - Intel Sandy Bridge with Nvidia Optimus which should be disabled In my case the primary reason for the high CPU is having FolderView widgets on the desktop. The bug is definitely reproducible and consistent. I use a desktop with a "Desktop Containment" layout. When the desktop is bare and has no FolderView widgets, CPU usage is normal. Add two or more (one works too, but the results are not as dramatic) FolderViews and restart the system, not just X! After logging back in, CPU usage for plasmashell is +50%, but may be as high as 100%. Remove the FolderViews and restart, CPU usage goes back to normal. This started happening sometime in June 2017 and may be related to Qt 5.9. I don't keep very close track of changes so I cannot be sure. If you tell me how to use strace on plasmashell I'll post traces. I don't have much experience with it. Thanks. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

With "plasmashell" the CPU usage is high, but when I close "plasmashell" it, the CPU usage is low. In the terminal, the messages are: Warning: all files used by qml by the plasmoid should be in ui/.
