http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=976947 Bug ID: 976947 Summary: Recent systemd and udev updates caused breakage. Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: 13.2 Hardware: x86-64 OS: openSUSE 13.2 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem Assignee: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com Reporter: nwr10cst-oslnx@yahoo.com QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:45.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/45.0 Build Identifier: According to zypp/history, I updated systemd and udev on April 19th. I booted to 13.2 today to see if there were new updates. And Yast could not find the repos. I checked the networking. Only "lo" existed. Neither ethernet nor wireless were recognized. I also noticed that synaptiks was not working (should have disabled the touchpad due to a mouse being plugged in). The synaptiks icon appeared to show an error, and would not open. The battery monitor said that I did not have a battery. Oops. Lots of problems there. However, everything works with 42.1 and with Tumbleweed. Everything also works with the 13.2 live rescue image. I was was able to get some network. If I went into Yast network settings, and changed the network config, then the network came up. With the network functioning, I reverted to the earlier systemd and udev versions. Here are the changes that I made (from zypp/history): ----- begin listing ----- 2016-04-23 16:39:53|install|libudev1|210.1456152170.f2b9ea6-25.34.1|x86_64|root@nwr|repo-update|edc80eabe5dec143095a819ca1b390534e43a26e038ce0db996666f008d58a58| 2016-04-23 16:39:53|install|libudev1-32bit|210.1456152170.f2b9ea6-25.34.1|x86_64|root@nwr|repo-update|e71115c4e2ef6f5a363e1d2949bf0f1dc7f3056c0f99a56f5f032c34dde14720| 2016-04-23 16:39:55|install|systemd-32bit|210.1456152170.f2b9ea6-25.34.1|x86_64|root@nwr|repo-update|d6214c97a05fc9aac647d04f284056f136ecc4f12541bb0d8469da62a45617de| 2016-04-23 16:39:56|install|systemd-bash-completion|210.1456152170.f2b9ea6-25.34.1|noarch|root@nwr|repo-update|6ed736263609026bc2390948f90e0c612a8793bb096a15ab47db7c29efb0b2f7| 2016-04-23 16:40:01|install|systemd|210.1456152170.f2b9ea6-25.34.1|x86_64|root@nwr|repo-update|d2797da0a1c4ee3108ddec5bb8fbcbcd64a444903f851b8d549cf242959520fb| 2016-04-23 16:40:03|install|udev|210.1456152170.f2b9ea6-25.34.1|x86_64|root@nwr|repo-update|7cd40298bbe0d3ca2eeb1f31829b610de115b7a37288a2e9e1b7f6890cfb0d63| 2016-04-23 16:40:04|install|systemd-sysvinit|210.1456152170.f2b9ea6-25.34.1|x86_64|root@nwr|repo-update|4378c2b829b029d120dd55ce7223b0146c0968b3aa1f20555f1a488ceeb28021| 2016-04-23 16:40:04|install|libgudev-1_0-0|210.1456152170.f2b9ea6-25.34.1|x86_64|root@nwr|repo-update|38744527d7738993046223bffd7272b001ad1acfa22f85c2d9e4ce1237e03aac| ----- end listing ----- After making those changes, the network now starts on boot, synaptiks does what it is supposed to do, and the battery is recognized. I'm not sure what broke, but some hardware component seemed not be recognized. Previously, the first or second line after booting was something about the b43 driver (and allhwsupport). This never caused a problem, but was noticeable. When the system was broken, that boot message was missing. After reverting to the previous systemd and udev, that message is back.
