[Bug 1049051] New: Please enable support for libsamplerate in pulseaudio
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1049051 Bug ID: 1049051 Summary: Please enable support for libsamplerate in pulseaudio Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: Leap 42.3 Hardware: Other OS: Linux Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Sound Assignee: tiwai@suse.com Reporter: aaron.w2@gmail.com QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- For a long time I have been using pulseaudio with the resample method set to src-sinc-best-quality due to the horrible sound quality I have experienced with the default settings. In my case I listen to a lot of music with good headphones and a good DAC using high-bitrate flac source material (i.e. 24-bit, 96/192KHz). I found a very significant loss of audio quality when some source material went through the default speex resampler and found that using libsamplerate's best quality sounded significantly better than speex at the cost of higher latency, which I can certainly live with when listening to music. In order to get around the lack of libsamplerate support I have been compiling my own version of pulseaudio but I would like for the support (though deprecated) to still be supported. Additionally, I would like to see support in Yast to choose higher audio quality settings. It took me quite a while to figure out how to configure both Alsa and Pulseaudio to support 24-bit audio and 96KHz which is what my DAC supports. I don't notice the CPU usage with the highest quality sample rate adjustment on my main computer, though on a Raspberry Pi the overhead is significant. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Upon further investigation I think the offerings of the soxr-hq and soxr-vhq options are as good as the libsamplerate support.
Yes, the support of libsamplerate is marked as deprecated in the recent upstream code. That's why it was dropped from our packaging, too.
I would like to see Yast or another tool allow one to set the audio quality for pulseaudio since speex-float-0 is pretty bad. It's a tradeoff of audio quality vs CPU overhead.
This is rather a feature request, so please go for FATE, or open another bugzilla entry. Thanks. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
