[Bug 890012] New: PM-UTILS hooks not being called from "Leave" menu or using Sleep button on keyboard (pm-suspend)
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=890012 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=890012#c0 Summary: PM-UTILS hooks not being called from "Leave" menu or using Sleep button on keyboard (pm-suspend) Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Factory Version: 201407* Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 13.2 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE4 Workspace AssignedTo: kde-maintainers@suse.de ReportedBy: noeerover@gmail.com QAContact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:31.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/31.0 After zypper dup to Factory (from 13.1), using my keyboard sleep button or the launcher menu "Leave/Suspend" does not seem to cause the PM-UTILS hooks to catch. In addition, there is no /var/log/pm-suspend.log. This is causing my resume hooks to not execute. However, if I sudo pm-suspend from console, the hooks run both for suspend and resume and there is a /var/log/pm-suspend.log Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Use the launcher to Leave/Suspend or press sleep button on keyboard 2. Wait some seconds for machine to suspend 3. Resume Actual Results: None of the pm-utils hooks execute and there is no /var/log/pm-suspend.log Expected Results: hooks should have executed on suspend and resume. Works with 13.1 and earlier. Keyboard is Microsoft Internet Keyboard Pro USB -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=890012 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=890012#c1 --- Comment #1 from Mike Noe <noeerover@gmail.com> 2014-08-02 13:13:44 UTC --- I just checked downgrading upower to .9.23 per this report (Bug 890082) and that did not solve the issue, so in this case (suspend/resume), something else is wrong. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=890012 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=890012#c2 --- Comment #2 from Mike Noe <noeerover@gmail.com> 2014-08-03 17:06:38 UTC --- Well, I was able to use a systemd root-resume.service hook to accomplish the same thing that pm-utils was doing before. Is pm-utils support being deprecated in lieu of systemd? If so, I guess this is not a bug..? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

The first argument will be "pre", the second either "suspend", "hibernate", or "hybrid-sleep" depending on the chosen action. Immediately after leaving system suspend and/or hibernation the same executables are run, but the first argument is now "post". All executables in this directory are executed in parallel, and execution of the action is not continued until all executables have finished. Note that scripts or binaries dropped in /usr/lib/systemd/system-sleep/ are intended for local use only and should be considered hacks. If applications want to be notified of system suspend/hibernation and resume, there are much nicer interfaces available.
