[Bug 1091742] New: system does not boot after upgrade to kdump-0.8.16-14.1
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1091742 Bug ID: 1091742 Summary: system does not boot after upgrade to kdump-0.8.16-14.1 Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Tumbleweed Version: Current Hardware: Other OS: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Other Assignee: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com Reporter: comes@naic.edu QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created attachment 768892 --> http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/attachment.cgi?id=768892&action=edit screen snapshot of failed boot If I had access to bsc#1089917 I would have added a comment there because this bug seems a consequence of the fixes introduced in kdump to fix bsc#1089917. But I don't have such access so I'm forced to open a new bug. I have a tumbleweed system which has installed the pattern kvm_server. After the 20180427 update it does not boot anymore. Attached you can find an example of the screen after a boot attempt. How to reproduce it: 1) if you have an updated tumbleweed system just install the pattern kvm_server and reboot. The boot should fail. or 2a) create a server (text) installation and at installation time select also the kvm_server pattern. After the installation is completed and the machine reboot, the boot fails. 2b) create a server (text) installation and reboot. Then install the pattern kvm_server and reboot. The boot fails. or 3) create a server (text) installation and at installation time select also the kvm_server pattern using (if you have access to) the tumbleweed-20180425 repository. Reboot. Now replace the repository tumbleweed-20180425 with tumbleweed-20180427 and do zypper dup. Reboot. The boot fails. It is possible however, to update the system in a way to make it not fail on the next reboot. In example 2b, when I select with yast the pattern kvm_server, I deselect also the package vm-install. After the pattern is installed, I then install vm-install (and its dependencies: kdump, makedumpfile and yast2-dump). Now the reboot works. In example 3, instead of executing zypper dup I run these sequence of commands: zypper al kdump zypper dup zypper rl kdump zypper up kdump now the reboot works. There are a couple of patches added to kdump-0.8.16-14.1 compared to kdump-0.8.16-13.1 that seems to cause the problem. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
