https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=245863 Summary: Non-critical issue Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Final Platform: i386 OS/Version: SuSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Minor Priority: P5 - None Component: Other AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: dca@projectcellular.com QAContact: qa@suse.de SuSE only boots in verbose mode on laptop display. Even though I've changed VGA= settings in the menu.lst file, it only changes the size of the letters in verbose start-up. Graphic start-up works fine on installs on PC(s) connected to 15" LCD and PC connected to 17" LCD... -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

In this case, the bootsplash code will just use the "verbose" version. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=245863 ------- Comment #2 from dca@projectcellular.com 2007-02-19 08:29 MST ------- Is there any way to add a script somewhere that can simply display '...loading openSuSE 10.2...' instead of the display being out of whack and displaying a green 'done' all over? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=245863 ------- Comment #3 from mls@novell.com 2007-02-19 08:43 MST ------- The display shouldn't be "out of whack", these are bugs in some packages. As off turning the messages completely off, this is a bit dangerous, think of needed interaction when a filesystem needs to be checked or a system panic. In that case you have to switch back to the text screen. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=245863 ------- Comment #4 from dca@projectcellular.com 2007-02-19 10:04 MST ------- Not necessarily turning off the text. Just simply adding a file somewhere in console text that says 'Starting openSuSE 10.2' instead of the green 'done' all over the screen or attempting to add framebuffer to the kernel config if it's not already there? If the start-up is not even referencing any files in the 'themes' directory during boot, I could see an issue, but there should be a way to change all the boot-up text to just a console-style 'starting...' message instead of the text all over the place? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=245863 ------- Comment #5 from mls@novell.com 2007-02-19 10:32 MST ------- Then people will complain that we don't show their copyrights and the like. Anyway, this issue is just about booting, how often do you boot your system? Servers shouldn't get booted often and notebooks will just be suspended/resumed instead of a boot. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=245863 ------- Comment #6 from dca@projectcellular.com 2007-02-19 11:18 MST ------- There are four Inspiron 1150 laptops that have the no graphics bootsplash issue after installing openSuSE 10.2... Apparently it does the same thing w/ 10.0 and 10.1 after installation on the same laptops. Someone asked why the text is all over the place w/ the green 'done' popping up. Changed the 'vga=xxxxx' on one and got it to display the text in line one right after the other (1024x768) and I was just wondering if there was a way to display something else on the laptops so people wouldn't ask if it's normal... -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
