[Bug 490640] New: date & time module: automatic switch between summer and winter time for CET
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=490640 Summary: date & time module: automatic switch between summer and winter time for CET Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Final Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Enhancement Priority: P5 - None Component: YaST2 AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: mschmidkunz@novell.com QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: --- Hi, I wondered why openSUSE 11.1 didn't switch automatically to CET summer time. After doing a little bit of research (collegues and google), I found out, that for an automatic switch between summer and winter time I need to check "Hardware Clock is Set To UTC". But that shows me an incorrect time, which I need to adjust manually. For example: Last week (winter time) the clock on my machine was set to 11:00. When I turned my machine on today the clock was still set to 11:00 although according to the offical summer time it should be set to 12:00. When checking "Set Hardware Clock to UTC" the clock showed 14:00, which doesn't correspond to the "offical" time. Is there any way, how to make the hardware clock switch automatically between summer and winter time? If there is a way, it should be make more clear to the user. I would like to make some suggestions about that, but therefore I need to know to more about the workflow :-) Thanks in advance and have nice day! But you can't just check "Hardware Clock is Set To UTC" if it is not true, i.e. if your Hardware Clock is not using UTC but your local time, which is true when you have Windows installed on the system. With local time in hw clock, I don't know of any way how to adjust the time when the summer time comes, I think it is expected you are using your Windows some times and they will take care. Or you could configure NTP client on your system, which will adjust the time on boot. Or maybe someone could write an applet which would look at it and inform user about it, just like Windows are doing it. Maybe we already have something like that, I don't know, it would be a question for a desktop teams. Anyway, YaST behavior is correct. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
