[Bug 662747] New: latitude e6510: frozen black display and "dell-wmi: Received unknown WMI event" message
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=662747 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=662747#c0 Summary: latitude e6510: frozen black display and "dell-wmi: Received unknown WMI event" message Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.3 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.3 Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: X.Org AssignedTo: bnc-team-xorg-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: raphael.leplae@ulb.ac.be QAContact: xorg-maintainer-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9.2.12) Gecko/20101026 SUSE/3.6.12-1.2 Firefox/3.6.12 GTB7.1 Hi all, I regularly get this problem (reproducible in 80%-90% of the cases): I leave my laptop for 1 hour and when I get back the display is black and "frozen", i.e only the mouse pointer is still active and working but the display remains black. I still have network access (I can ssh to the laptop) and start X apps remotely. When I check /var/log/messages, I have this, matching the time I tried to reactivate the display: Jan 6 13:39:35 cdc-pc90 kernel: [12744.847300] dell-wmi: Received unknown WMI event (0x11) Jan 6 13:39:35 cdc-pc90 kernel: [12745.072487] NVRM: Xid (0001:00): 13, 0003 00000000 00008597 00001b0c 1000f010 00000040 Jan 6 13:39:35 cdc-pc90 kernel: [12745.455118] NVRM: Xid (0001:00): 13, 0003 00000000 00008597 00001458 00000006 00000140 Jan 6 13:39:35 cdc-pc90 kernel: [12745.654619] NVRM: Xid (0001:00): 13, 0003 00000000 00008597 00001458 00000006 00000140 Jan 6 13:39:36 cdc-pc90 kernel: [12745.818020] NVRM: Xid (0001:00): 13, 0003 00000000 00008597 00001458 00000006 00000140 Jan 6 13:39:44 cdc-pc90 kernel: [12753.972155] NVRM: Xid (0001:00): 13, 0003 00000000 00008597 00001458 00000006 00000140 Nothing else related to the problem in this log file. The laptop is on a docking station with an external monitor attached to it (DVI port). The external monitor remains also black and the mouse pointer is not visible on that one. Checked on Google for "dell-wmi: Received unknown WMI event (0x11)" and found only 1 other similar case but without a real solution. Keyboard is working but couldn't go to VT1 (Ctrl-Alt-F1). I launched 'init 3' remotely, got the 'Switching to runlevel: 3' log message but the display remained frozen. It doesn't happen if the laptop is not docked but I haven't tried with the laptop not docked and with an external display attached, or the laptop docked and without the external display attached. Will be tested in the next few days. I added config and relevant sections of log files in the 'Additional Information' section. Let me know if there are more info needed or other things to try. Thanks in advance for any help! Cheers, Raphael Reproducible: Sometimes Steps to Reproduce: 1.Have the Latitude E6510 docked with an external display attached. 2.Let the screen go off (no auto suspend mode here) 3.Reactivate the display with the mouse. Actual Results: Display remains black, mouse, keyboard and network still active. Expected Results: Switch on the display. Config: ------ Dell Latitude E6510, docked on its Dell dock station with a second monitor attached.
