[Bug 502572] New: DOSbox installed onto KDE menu does not get $home as working/launch directory
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=502572 Summary: DOSbox installed onto KDE menu does not get $home as working/launch directory Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Final Platform: 64bit OS/Version: openSUSE 11.1 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE4 Applications AssignedTo: kde-maintainers@suse.de ReportedBy: roland@logikalsolutions.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- User-Agent: Opera/9.64 (X11; Linux x86_64; U; en) Presto/2.1.1 If you install DOSbox, it gets an entry on the KDE menu. If you run DOSbox from this entry, the configuration does not fill in any value for the launch directory. When you run CONFIG -writeconf abc.conf it completes successfully, but sends the output to the bit bucket. Launch DOSbox from the command line in a terminal, and you will find the output written to the directory you launched from. This is an installation bug. The menu entry should be using $home for the user as the launch directory. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Open KDE menu, type DOS in the search bar 2.Click on DOSbox entry 3.type CONFIG -writeconf abc.conf Actual Results: No error message received. 4. Open a terminal window and do a find across your entire system for abc.conf, it won't be found. Expected Results: abc.conf should have been written to $home or some other user writeable directory. 5. Use same terminal window and switch back to home directory. 6. Launch DOSbox from terminal 7. type CONFIG -writeconf abc.conf 8. You can now find the file. This is going to cause a lot of spastic problems with applications. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Who are all the people who can confirm this? Why aren't they here?
Why do write in such an unfriendly tone? Because I've been in IT over 20 years and when a support person given detailed step by step reproduction instructions which have been independently confirmed says "can't duplicate" it is highly offensive. It means they didn't try or
Because they are all in the DOSbox project/forum and they confirmed this bug happens only in OpenSuSE because the RPM doesn't set up the correct parameters when launched from the menu. that they didn't follow the instructions. I even tried with my fresh install of OpenSuSE 11.1 64-bit and all updates applied. Same results. My guess is one of two things: You two, the only two I've found who claim it works on OpenSuSE 64-bit 11.1, have something else installed which is adding an entry to an "rc" file in kde4/share/config or .kde/share/config which is allowing it to work. The rest of us aren't installing that, or have removed the item(s) due to other bugs it/they caused. Just about everybody on the planet has removed the [paths] section from kde4/share/config/kdeglobals because it hoses up Dolphin. Do you both still have this section in that file? If so, is Dolphin going to your Documents directory instead of your home? Take that section out. Dolphin will now work correctly and I bet you can reproduce the problem. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
