Since root is not allowed to login via ssh by default, I have to login to the system as normal user: - ssh mjedamzik@tumble-3 - now I need to become the root user: mjedamzik@rescue:/> su Password: su: Authentication service cannot retrieve authentication info The reason for this is that "su" is missing the SUID bit: mjedamzik@rescue:/> ls -la /usr/bin/su lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 26 Jun 7 12:09 /usr/bin/su -> /mounts/mp_0000/usr/bin/su mjedamzik@rescue:/> ls -la /mounts/mp_0000/usr/bin/su -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 55600 Apr 25 00:00 /mounts/mp_0000/usr/bin/su Cross-check: mjedamzik@rescue:/> /mnt/usr/bin/su Password: rescue:/ # mjedamzik@rescue:/> ls -la /mnt/usr/bin/su -rwsr-xr-x 1 root root 55600 May 12 21:07 /mnt/usr/bin/su -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
