[Bug 594202] New: Kiwi Image Builds Always use ext3 for Home Partition
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=594202 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=594202#c0 Summary: Kiwi Image Builds Always use ext3 for Home Partition Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE.org Version: unspecified Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: SLES 11 Status: NEW Severity: Enhancement Priority: P5 - None Component: System Imaging AssignedTo: ms@novell.com ReportedBy: delder@novacoast.com QAContact: adrian@novell.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9.1.8) Gecko/20100204 SUSE/3.5.8-0.1.1 Firefox/3.5.8 It looks like even if you specify a filesystem time other than ext3 for kiwi to use (in the type section), it will use ext3 for any remaining partitions (at least for oemboot configurations). The use of a journaled filesystem though isn't optimal for certain environments (i.e., usb flash) where the lifetime of the media will be severely limited without wear leveling. The performance overhead for writing to the journal and disk also mitigates against the use of a journaled filesystem. If Kiwi could use the filesystem type specified for all partitions created (or add support for different filesystems on an individual basis with new schema options) it would offer greater control.
