[Bug 206440] New: Yast2 not recognizing SAS5i harddrives during install on Dell PE1950
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=206440 Summary: Yast2 not recognizing SAS5i harddrives during install on Dell PE1950 Product: SUSE Linux 10.1 Version: Final Platform: i386 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Blocker Priority: P5 - None Component: YaST2 AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: clay_cooper@dell.com QAContact: jsrain@novell.com CC: john_hull@dell.com During a CD installation of OpenSuSE 10.1 i386, on a Dell PE1950 w/ a SAS5i adapter and a SAS HDD. The SAS5i is recognized, the mptsas module is loaded, and the kernel sees the HDD (/proc/scsi/scsi). But the installer errors and reports that there are no available harddrives. After enabling YaST2 debug mode with Y2DEBUG=1 as a kernel boot option, it seems that in /var/log/YaST2/y2log, that after parsing sysfs for HDD information, the installer determines that there are no qualifying HDD for install. This is a very high priority issue with a large server purchasing dependent on getting this working. Any help would be appreciated. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Customers only get support through the business channels for Novells business products. OpenSUSE is not a business product. You may test if the latest OpenSUSE 10.1 kernel resolves the issue. Based on the results, you can create a driver update disk. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=206440 ------- Comment #8 from clay_cooper@dell.com 2006-09-19 07:14 MST ------- They should be using SLES10, I agree. I'm sure cost is the issue. Our group within Dell attempts to solve issues with otherwise unsupported configurations for large enterprise customers. Could you point me to the latest OpenSuSE 10.1 kernel and I will try it? I looked for an update on OpenSuSE.org but couldn't find it. Is it an updated set of CDs or just a new kernel? BTW, I tried CD1 of OpenSuSE 10.2 Alpha 4 and it worked with no error. I tried to compile the newer mptlinux driver on the 10.1 kernel (2.6.13-4) but got numerous SAS-layer compile errors. However, I'm not sure it is the driver, since in OpenSuSE 10.1 rescue mode I am able to partition, format, and write to the SAS drives using the native driver. Thanks for your help. https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=206440 ------- Comment #9 from marc.ruehrschneck@novell.com 2006-09-19 08:11 MST ------- Clay, thanks for clarification. The easiest way to get the latest OpenSUSE 10.1 kernel is installing 10.1 on a different system and using the update mechanism in YAST. Then you can grab the latest kernel. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
