[Bug 489124] New: zypper up seems to intend upgrades
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=489124 Summary: zypper up seems to intend upgrades Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Final Platform: All OS/Version: openSUSE 11.1 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: libzypp AssignedTo: zypp-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: estellnb@gmail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; Konqueror/3.5; Linux) KHTML/3.5.10 (like Gecko) SUSE While there are no updates available according to openSuSE-updater and YaST 'zypper up' wants to do a whole lot more:
zypper up|wc -l nein 74 A lot of pakages are marked for actualization and to change their source (see attachement). Perhaps 'zypper up' wants to do something like 'aptitude safe-upgrade'(Debian) instead of 'aptitude update'. Perhaps there should be a --light or --keep-source switch for 'zypper up' in order not to make packages change their source-repo on updates.
Reproducible: Always -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

If you're familiar with older zypper, see the changes pages at: http://en.opensuse.org/Zypper/Versions 2) The vendor changes are allowed between trusted vendors. It depends on what you have in your /etc/zypp/vendors.d/ directory. Seems the other vendor that zypper wants to update from is trusted. Retry with 'zypper -v up' to see what is the name of the new vendor and check what you have in /etc/zypp/vendors.d. JFYI: aptitude update == zypper refresh, and yes, aptitude safe-upgrade == zypper update -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

zypper -v up: ... wants to change packages to os11.0-oss; however the Opensuse 11.0 repository should not contain newer package versions than the Opensuse 11.1 repo.
This is not a matter of package version only. The highest key is the repository priority: HIGH repo-update priority=20 Libdvdcss repository priority=99 emulators priority=99 ati priority=99 os11.0-oss priority=99 os11.0-packman priority=99 zypper priority=99 tuxracer priority=99 repo-oss priority=100 repo-non-oss priority=100 LOW As your os11.0 repos have higher priority than the repo-oss, the solver will always prefer their packages, independently of the version. That's how repository priority works. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Usually these repositories contain additional software not available anywhere else but are less trustworthy than the core distro packages. f.i. I do not want packages to be installed from Packman if they are available in the core distro as well. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

However I would like to know the previous distributor (to check if everything is right; zypper if seems to return the best available package source only and not the currently installed; neither can rpm). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
