Gentoo does not have this problem at all KDE4 versions, as well as Arch Linux.
in previous openSUSE 12.1 install with btrfs at / and /home all applications takes long to start (shorter than it takes now for gwenview), but system didn't freeze.
Have you tried with ext4, is that fast? I have also set up my / and /home as btrfs, and the system does feel slow, especially dolphin. And the HD also makes a lot of noise. I have ATI card with fglrx drivers installed. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Yes. Now for 2 month I have openSUSE installed on ext4 (/ and /home). It is about 2-3 times faster (more responsible) than on btrfs, but still lacks then start dolphin and gwenview. It freezes whole system for 3-10 seconds while starts. Now I installed openSUSE on SSD Samsung 830 128Gb (instead of usual hdd 5400rpm), but all programs uses the same time to start. Gwenview anf Dolphin still freezes system while started. The only thing that becomes faster -- initial load of the system, it takes about 10 seconds. If I switch "Desktop effects" Off, than dolphin and gwenview loads faster and no freeze of the system happen. BUT only for the first few seconds. After it goes back to long and freeze. So it seems, while switching on/off of "desktop effects" boosts performance for a short period of time=) Funny! but it happens only on openSUSE=))) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
