[Bug 991693] New: xembed-sni-proxy missing from plasma5.5
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=991693 Bug ID: 991693 Summary: xembed-sni-proxy missing from plasma5.5 Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: Leap 42.1 Hardware: Other OS: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE Workspace (Plasma) Assignee: opensuse-kde-bugs@opensuse.org Reporter: emrecio@gmail.com QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- I start pidgin, various java based apps, and nothing shows up in the system try. I go to install the sni-proxy app, and it wants me to revert to plasma5.4. The sni-proxy, while not perfect, worked... now I get NO system try icons. Problem: installed plasma5-workspace-5.5.5.2-12.1.x86_64 obsoletes xembed-sni-proxy < 5.5.5.2 provided by xembed-sni-proxy-0.0.1git~20151104~ded1538-3.1.x86_64 Bring back the xembed proxy, or make the system tray work again as it was completely. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

The reason why the package was removed and obsoleted is that it was integrated in plasma5-workspace. So you should have the binary /usr/bin/xembedsniproxy on your system if you have plasma5-workspace 5.5.5 installed. Please check the following: 1) Does the binary /usr/bin/xembedsniproxy exist ? If not, please reinstall the plasma5-workspace package and check again. 2) If it exists, please check if it is running. 3) If it is not running, then please start it from a konsole and see if error messages are generated. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=991693 http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=991693#c2 --- Comment #2 from Emilio Recio <emrecio@gmail.com> --- OK, I can see the binary, and when I start it via command line the icons return in the system tray. Do I need to autostart it everytime? I have placed it in my KDE's autostart just in case. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=991693 http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=991693#c3 --- Comment #3 from Raymond Wooninck <tittiatcoke@gmail.com> --- No, it should be started automatically and there shouldn't be a need to place it in the Autostart directory. However there were issues that it got started and then directly died or got killed. The cause of it was never found, but it seemed to be a kind of race of components, as that placing a sleep 1 in the plasmashell.desktop file (in the exec= line) helped resolving this particular issue. With later versions this got somehow resolved, but unfortunately we can not provide plasma updates anymore as that this would also require higher versions of system libraries. With Leap 42.2 this issue should no longer be there. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

After starting manually, each successive reboot has brought up the proxy just fine. Not quite sure what happened to block it though. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

I don't know what caused it. Go figure after I close this ticket. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Sl Aug30 0:51 /usr/bin/xembedsniproxy I only have one screen too... so I don't know what the .xsessionrc log of kscreen is talking about. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
