[Bug 612131] New: No cpu frequency scaling support without hal
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=612131 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=612131#c0 Summary: No cpu frequency scaling support without hal Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.3 Version: Factory Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: vuntz@novell.com QAContact: qa@suse.de CC: kasievers@novell.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- Apparently, the cpu frequency scaling support is only setup if you have hal installed, since it's some functions called from /etc/init.d/haldaemon So without hal, we don't have this anymore, which results in hot & noisy computers. I guess this should be moved elsewhere. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

But we need a tiny boot param to be able to disable cpufreq: CPUFREQ=[off,no] would be hal compatible. There would be very old machines supported by powernow-k7 or speedstep-xy drivers, people would need to load them manually, hal tried to load: speedstep_centrino powernow_k8 powernow_k7 powernow_k6 longrun speedstep_ich acpi_cpufreq (speedstep-centrino can be removed it's more or less non-functional). This only "works" in 11.3 because we've put back in the default install, and the hal init.d script loads the right modules. Just wondering: do you have an ETA for this?
