[Bug 498511] New: YOU conflicts dialog takes 100% CPU while idle
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=498511 Summary: YOU conflicts dialog takes 100% CPU while idle Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Final Platform: Other OS/Version: openSUSE 11.1 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: YaST2 AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: suse-beta@cboltz.de QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: Beta-Customer Bug 498125 (a kdegraphics3 patch caused conflicts because of a vendor change) caused a strange problem for me: While the conflicts dialog was shown by YOU, the y2base process took nearly 100% of the CPU while waiting for user input. "Screenshot" of top: PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND 12683 root 20 0 110m 58m 21m S 95.6 5.8 1:24.66 /usr/lib/YaST2/bin/y2base online_update -S qt The y2logs are available in attachment 288127 of bug 498125. Note: I can't reproduce this with a "simple" conflict, and also can't reproduce it with the kdegraphics3 patch because it is fixed in the meantime. OTOH, the high CPU load was reproducable with the 11.1 test-updates repo last friday. This means you should be able to reproduce this if you find an outdated snapshot of the test-updates repo from last weekend ;-) -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

(tail -f /var/log/YaST2/y2log) Is there anything being added when you use debug logs? If even not here, can you run it in debugger (or make kill it with core dump) and find out what is just running? I don't know why I got that bug that late, sorry that I'm asking for this information. If you cannot reproduce it, I'm afraid there is no other way than closing it. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

All I can tell you is - IIRC there was nothing added to the y2log while YOU took all the CPU (comment #0 contains the link to the y2logs, maybe you find something useful nevertheless) - the 100% CPU usage _started_ when the conflicts dialog popped up - the 100% CPU usage _ended_ when closing the conflicts dialog - the bug must be somewhere in the "idle" code - I had the dialog open for some time and the CPU usage was 100% all the time Maybe you can locate the problem in the conflict dialog code. Conditions are (not sure if I know all of them) - a conflict must exist - the conflict should be solvable by a vendor change (a "simple" conflict with the same vendor doesn't cause the 100% CPU usage) -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
