[Bug 513955] New: Single page printing of PDF documents using KPDF/Okular totally insane
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=513955 Summary: Single page printing of PDF documents using KPDF/Okular totally insane Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Final Platform: x86 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.1 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE4 Applications AssignedTo: kde-maintainers@suse.de ReportedBy: madworm_de.novell@spitzenpfeil.org QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.0.11) Gecko/2009060200 SUSE/3.0.11-0.1.1 Firefox/3.0.11 For proof reading and checking of illustrations I print out single pages of PDF documents - or at least I'm trying to do that. The PDF document in question is about 10MB large and was created with pdflatex on my machine. When using okular/kpdf and printing just a single page of said document creates a spool file of over 21MB and freezes my printer (128MB RAM). Printing the exact same page with the latest acroread results in a spool file size of about 250KB and it prints just fine. As my cpu fan spins up madly when kpdf/okular try to print I fear that this page is pumped through ghostscript and that doesn't do any good at all. It takes about 10 seconds at 100% cpu load to do this. The strange effect gets smaler if I remove parts with large images of the document before compiling it, but there's still a discrepancy between the actual page size and the spool file size of about a factor of 10. Spool file size and page file size (as pdf) are about equal when printing with acroread. I've used pdftk to split the large PDF into single pages, which just takes a few seconds (no gs involved ?). Printing those files works with okular/kpdf again. Why can't kpdf/okular use a sane method to extract single pages (or ranges) and print these ? Doing it manually (or with acroread or pdftk) works, so it is possible. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: Checked with a few other PDF files, only 100% reproducible with my pdflatex generated document, which I can't post here. Actual Results: can't print single pages "just like that" Expected Results: okular should be clever when extracting single pages, no need to re-render the page. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
