[Bug 1208681] New: Plasma 5.27.1 application font sizes too small after update
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1208681 Bug ID: 1208681 Summary: Plasma 5.27.1 application font sizes too small after update Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Tumbleweed Version: Current Hardware: x86-64 OS: openSUSE Tumbleweed Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE Workspace (Plasma) Assignee: opensuse-kde-bugs@opensuse.org Reporter: michael@actrix.gen.nz QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- After updating to Plasma 5.27.1 TW 20230224, the application font sizes became tiny, both in KDE applications such as kate and konsole and non KDE applications such as google-chrome and jetbrains pycharm. On the other hand the size of the window decoration fonts, panel fonts, and desktop widgets remained unchanged. I attempted to use Settings to change the default font sizes, but then window decoration fonts, panel fonts, and desktop widget fonts became huge. I have one 27" 4K monitor and one 1920x1200 monitor. Perhaps the 4K monitor has something to do with it. I run the 4K monitor unscaled in KDE and use xrandr to scale the 1920x1200 display by 1.75 (which is fine for text): xrandr --output DP-4 --auto --output DP-0 --auto --scale 1.75x1.75 --right-of DP-4 I've reverted to 5.27.0 which has fixed the issue, although I should note that since Plasma 5.27.0. I've seen the odd problem with google-chrome switching to tiny fonts, and this was resolved by logging out and starting a new session. I should probably also note that kscreen2 is disabled (to avoid the hot-plug actions associated with turning off DisplayPort screens). I tried to log this bug before, but it seems to have disappeared - apologies if this appears as a duplicate. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Which refers to https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/HiDPI#KDE_Plasma and the fact that Plasma 5.27 dropped use of GDK_SCALE/GDK_DPI_SCALE variables. But I'm seeing small KDE fonts as well as GTK fonts, so that might not be the whole story. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1208681 http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1208681#c4 --- Comment #4 from Michael Hamilton <michael@actrix.gen.nz> --- There is a background KDE service called GNOME/GTK Settings Synchronisations Service, I suspect it is overwriting .config/xsettingsd/xsettingsd.conf. I tried manually setting the DPI in xsettingsd.conf. When I login the config file gets changed back to 98304, which means 96 dpi (98304/1024=96). I went to KDE settings->Workspace->Startup and Shutdown->Background Services and disabled the KDE service, and now everything is back to normal. I think KDE 5.27 might have been updated to make clever decisions about DPI, and might be picking the lowest (or it's just getting it wrong) - I have two monitors, one is 161 dpi and the other is 96. I'm not actually sure what "correct" is, but I'm back to where I was. Even with the KDE service running, xdpyinfo is returning a resolution of 161x161 dots per inch, but perhaps the KDE service is looking at both my monitors, one is 161 DPI and the other 96 DPI. My login config files date back to 1992. In case my user login and xrandr settings were contributing to the problem, I did my debugging under a new login. That login sees the same issue, so I think this problem might be general to folk with monitors that have two different DPI's. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

I've been informally told by a KDE developer that X11 multi-DPI isn't a feature supported by KDE, so 5.27 breaking something they don't support is not a bug. See

Happens to me using the internal HiDPI monitor of my notebook. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
