So basically gnome-keybindings are changed to XF86AudioMute etc. on upgrade process.
Yep, that's right. And it's supposed to be working. So that's really an issue with the default keyboard layout. I'm assuming that pc102 is the default layout you get when installing 11.1 directly. It worked with the same layout in 11.0 because we weren't using the name of the keys, but some keycodes instead. So default keyboard layout should be set differently. That's some X stuff, though. This is clearly an issue with X11 or GNOME. If it is GNOME or X11 -- I do not want to judge. Anyway. Here's some information: It seems that with 11.1 we have key symbols (XF86*) set by default after an installation we didn't have before Actually this is a good thing. This gets obvious in the GNOME keybindings. Where we previously had hex values when assigning hotkeys for volume/up down and such we now have receive the proper X key symbols. Well, I assume this was a fresh installation, not an update. And as far as I understand this annoying issue it only occurs for update paths (e.g. 11.0 -> 11.1). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

But the weird thing is that in 11.0, microsoftpro was also the default layout: see bug 380463, eg. So, hrm, FIXED? :-)
Yes. Seems that the first time I installed fresh 11.1 I did something weird and didn't get those keys working. :| But with fresh install they work out of the box.
Yep. The problem occurs only on update. (In reply to comment #36)
Olli: how was 11.0 installed the first time?
From retail media of openSUSE 11.0. English as a language and Finnish as a keyboard selection. Finnish time zone. Everything else as a default.

So the only problem left is the upgrade problem. I'm not quite sure why Olli got pc102 when he installed 11.0, but it was already supposed to be the ms keyboard layout by default. The question is now: do we want gnome-settings-daemon to always support 0xa0 & friends? I'll open a bug upstream to discuss this, but there's not much more we can do, I think. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
