After reboot there were error messages from GRUB, and the kernel could not boot any more. Before the update booting worked. Details: My system has two SATA disks of the same size (sda and sdb). The system is on sda, while sdb has an obsolete physical copy of sda. (The background was that sdb previously was sda, but it had an increasing number of defects, so I ordered a new disk, copied it, and swapped in the good copy for the bad one) The copy is several months old. The system in question was on /dev/sda8. After installing the kernel update, almost every occurrence of sda8 had been changed to sdb8! If there were any warnings or errors, those are lost. That being the case, it may not be possible to figure out after the fact what caused the problem. "rpm -qa --last" will at least give us some idea of which updates you installed. Please attach the output of that command. (The log file seems to have problems of its own; I'm not opening a separate bug for that, but some Perl variables are logged unexpanded.
