I even wiped the system and did a base install and still happens. Bringing up (ifup wlan0) the interface fixes the disconnected wlan0 and if there is trafic, say download of several GB of data, it stays alive. Googing at it -- several different hardware wlan platforms seem to have this problem and no real solution as of now.
