I also have the same problem in KDE. It's very annoying, as e.g. scripts for
doing my backup fail when the device suddenly becomes "/media/BACKUP-1".
A simple (quick'n'dirty) solution would maybe be to simply put something like
find . -type d -empty -exec rmdir {} \;
into one of the boot scripts. So there would be at least a clean "/media"
directory after a reboot .
