https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=847406 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=847406#c0 Summary: in virtualbox VM: reconfig of dual nic vm fails, eth0 becomes rename2, eth1 not configured or visible, eth0 not configured. perhaps something with double mac address ? Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.3 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 12.3 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Network AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: rens.groenewegen@xs4all.nl QAContact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created an attachment (id=564757) --> (http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=564757) yast2 log User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:24.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/24.0 I cloned the VM from node1 into node2 with virtualbox. I did forget to check the re-initialize MAC address. Eth0 is configured with dhcp and is configured properly. when i try to configure the eth1, it fails without yast saying so. worse, I now have a rename2 which has the config of eth0, eth0 is vaporized and eth1 is not initalized...... The same happened with a second clone. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.see above 2. 3. Actual Results: when i try to configure the eth1, it fails without yast saying so. worse, I now have a rename2 which has the config of eth0, eth0 is vaporized and eth1 is not initalized...... Expected Results: should have configured eth1 and leave eth0 alone. if the double mac address is the problem, then it should have refused to configure eth1, report that to the user and in all cases, leave eth0 alone. btw, rename2 interface does work..... -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=847406 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=847406#c3 --- Comment #3 from rens groenewegen <rens.groenewegen@xs4all.nl> 2013-11-12 14:03:46 UTC --- another slightly different issue, might have same root cause: ( in virtualbox) I installed 12.3 with a single ether card, configured eth0 + static IP so far so good. I then shut down, added a virtual nic in virtualbox, and rebooted. I configure eth1 to use DHCP and eth0 to still use static IP. yast2 finishes, but fails to tell that it did not manage to do that. no dhcp on eth1, eth0 still static as should. I then reboot and it is a mess...... Although the new card is eth1, and mapped onto wireless, not the physical ether0 suse now configures my static IP on eth1 and eth0 stays unconfigured. In other words, it manages to swap eth0 and eth1 without being configured to do that. attached screenshot. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
