[Bug 343724] New: Xen on suse 10. 3 is unable to boot when LVM partitions are used as virtual partitions
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=343724#c1 Summary: Xen on suse 10.3 is unable to boot when LVM partitions are used as virtual partitions Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Final Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Xen AssignedTo: cgriffin@novell.com ReportedBy: luizluca@tre-sc.gov.br QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Hello, This setup worked without problems on suse 10.2 but when I migrated to 10.3, xen was not anymore able to find kernel/initrd. With: disk = ['phy:/dev/system/ingleses_swap,hda1,w', 'phy:/dev/system/ingleses_root,hda2,w',] memory = 512 vcpus = 1 builder = 'linux' name = 'ingleses' vif = [ 'mac=00:16:3e:97:50:6b' ] localtime = 0 on_poweroff = 'destroy' on_reboot = 'restart' on_crash = 'restart' extra = ' TERM=xterm' bootloader = '/usr/lib/xen/boot/domUloader.py' bootargs = '--entry=hda2:/boot/vmlinuz-xen,/boot/initrd-xen' I got: # xm create ingleses Using config file "./ingleses". Error: Had a bootloader specified, but no disks are bootable There is a workaround that is to remove the hda2 reference on bootargs bootargs = '--entry=:/boot/vmlinuz-xen,/boot/initrd-xen' This way, it uses the first virtual partition as the place to look for the kernel/initrd. As my first one is swap, I had to also switch its position with root one. disk = ['phy:/dev/system/ingleses_root,hda2,w', 'phy:/dev/system/ingleses_swap,hda1,w'] And this way Xen booted correctly. # xm create -c ingleses Using config file "./ingleses". Started domain ingleses Bootdata ok (command line is TERM=xterm) Linux version 2.6.18.8-0.5-xen (geeko@buildhost) (gcc version 4.1.2 20061115 (prerelease) (SUSE Linux)) #1 SMP Fri Jun 22 12:1 7:53 UTC 2007 BIOS-provided physical RAM map: Xen: 0000000000000000 - 0000000020800000 (usable) No mptable found. and so on... I think that the first setup should still be valid in Suse 10.3 as it was in 10.2. Having separated LV as partition permits that one could resize easly the partition at will. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
