[Bug 215058] New: logout applet doesn't show options
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=215058 Summary: logout applet doesn't show options Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Beta 1 Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE AssignedTo: kde-maintainers@suse.de ReportedBy: behlert@novell.com QAContact: qa@suse.de New installation, log in as root. add 'Logout-applet' to the bar at the bottom. Ok, that the blue xlock is now at the bottom and the red one on top which is the opposite of the 10.1 layout is a little bit strange. But the behavior has changed significantly: Press the red logout part. Press 'Confirm' because I want to shutdown - instead I got logged out only. In the configuration menu available with a right-click on th eapplet 'Show shutdown options' is selected. I would expect that I can choose what to do. Not that always the default shutdown option is executed. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

The logout-applet was there, I pressed the red part of it. I got the old, familiar menue to choose from (end session, logout, suspend). I choosed suspend, and resumed the machine. Now the pressing the button no longer shows the menu, but 'session will end after 29 seconds' instead. This is extremely strange. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

which is the opposite of the 10.1 layout is a little bit strange
That's due to the new default panel layout in 10.2 and wanting to have the lock button easy available (just throw your mouse in right bottom corner and click).
I would expect that I can choose what to do. Not that always the default shutdown option is executed.
I just implemented what I remembered from the discussion with Coolo. But maybe I misunderstood him or we want to keep the old behavior now? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=215058 ------- Comment #4 from behlert@novell.com 2006-10-26 03:44 MST ------- It is at least confusing that the behavior was not the same with every run. I would expect nevertheless that selecting 'Show shutdown option' would let me choose after pressing the button on the applet what I would like to do. But after reading your comment I guess that I misunderstood that option. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=215058 ------- Comment #7 from amantia@kde.org 2006-10-30 15:51 MST ------- #3: You say that you don't want to show the shutdown options after pressing the logout button? That would be bad, IMO (and is bad now, so I use my old logout applet...) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=215058 ------- Comment #9 from amantia@kde.org 2006-10-31 04:40 MST ------- Sure, but why does it become inconsistent if you allow the user to change the behavior? The applet has a configuration dialog, and for SUSE you can set whatever defaults you want, add the countdown dialog and so, but what I don't understand is why would you want to remove functionality and freedom?
