[Bug 340141] New: gnome desktop media icons behave erratic
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=340141 Summary: gnome desktop media icons behave erratic Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Final Platform: x86 OS/Version: openSUSE 10.3 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: GNOME AssignedTo: bnc-team-gnome@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: casualprogrammer@yahoo.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: Beta-Customer In openSuSE 10.3 GM the desktop behaves erratic with respect to media icons. On an FSC Amilo Si 1520 I have two Windows NTFS partitions, an external Firewire drive an an SD Card. There are most of the time no icons for the NTFS partitions and proper icons for the external media and the SD Card. Every now and then, the NTFS partitions have desktop icons ( C and D ) while the other two are missing. At other times there are icons for the external media and SD card but they are not accessible. A message "access prohibited by a rule" will then be displayed. The proper situation would be to have icons for all connected media and all of them being accessible via clicking the icons. Not sure what kind of information I could provide to help pinpoint the issue, please advise. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Then, please attach these: - a screenshot of your desktop - the output of 'hal-device' - the output of 'mount' As for the NTFS partitions, are they on a non-removable hard drive? If so, can you please attach your /etc/fstab? Programmer <casualprogrammer@yahoo.com> 2008-05-22 02:33:59 MST --- Federico, there has been a lot of change in that area since. They still do behave strange at times. As Magnus told me, the current intent is, to show only desktop icons for items mounted under /media which sounds reasonable somehow. My concern at the time was, that the NTFS partitions originally showed on the desktop, then they didn't and so on. Even today under some peculiar conditions they show as C and D on the desktop, but then it's usually broken ( the desktop ). Presently if I mount them to /media, they show up as expected with their volume names. So I think we can let this rest peacefully for now.. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
