[Bug 727362] New: Yast partitioner suggests create extended partition only
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=727362 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=727362#c0 Summary: Yast partitioner suggests create extended partition only Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.2 Version: RC 1 Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: YaST2 AssignedTo: aschnell@suse.com ReportedBy: mvyskocil@suse.com QAContact: jsrain@suse.com Found By: Development Blocker: --- I try to install 12.1 on new Dell PC and yast installer suggests user combination of extended partition + logical ones only. It does not depends on the state of disc before - when I removed all stuff using gparted, it behaves the same. I did not find any documentation (Release Notes, wiki, google) so it sounds to me like a bug. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

YaST also suggested as a "smart default" killing partitions (including /home) and creating an extended partition. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=727362 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=727362#c2 Thomas Fehr <fehr@suse.com> changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Status|NEW |NEEDINFO CC| |fehr@suse.com InfoProvider| |mvyskocil@suse.com --- Comment #2 from Thomas Fehr <fehr@suse.com> 2011-10-31 14:21:44 UTC --- What is suggested depends on the number of partitions to be created if e.g. 4 partitions are to be created (/, /boot, /home and swap) it will always propose an extended partitions because system is more flexible this way. Please attach y2log file of a proposal you consider buggy and I can have a look. If all disk space is used it has no choice as to suggest removal of partitions. Which and how many are removed depends on space requirement (e.g. btrfs proposal limits are twice as much space as ext4). Again y2log is needed to see if there is a problem. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Heuristics for that is that the partition contains at least one subdirectory containing files like .profile, .bashrc, .ssh, .kde, .kde4, .gnome, .gnome2 . Isn´t this the case for your /dev/sda4? Anyway looking for a label name of "home" cannot hurt. I added code for that. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
